2025-10-13drm/amd/display: Driver implementation for cursor offloading to DMUNicholas Kazlauskas
[Why] We require an interlock between driver and firmware for upcoming features and given that this could possibly happen on any single cursor programming call (and that we can't asynchronously wait for firmware to respond because of it) we'd be regressing cursor performance by at least an extra 40us per call. When we could possibly have cursor update every 20us - 100s from high frequency gaming mice this means that we'd be stuttering or dropping updates and impacting overall cursor performance. We want a solution that can: 1. Interlock between other firmware features 2. Not stall out or require the DMCUB lock for every single update [How] When cursor offloading is enabled and supported by an ASIC driver will route the cursor programming through to DMU as part of the regular DC stream cursor programming interfaces for attributes and position. The atomic pipe programming version will not be updated: this will still follow the existing programming path by keeping track of a field that specifies when the register writes should be deferred to DMU. Cursor locking is not required when cursor offload is in progress since the updates are consolidated and processed by DMU once at the end of the frame in a periodic manner. The shared buffer the firmware queries from is allocated along with the rest of the scratch state region in an area that's accessible by both firmware and driver. The size of the cursor offload (v1) state will not change, but it does have a unique union per ASIC version with room for expansion if needed. When firmware features notifying DMU of DRR updates are not enabled we now send an explicit vtotal min/max update via driver to DMU firmware whenever the vtotal max changes. This is to allow the cursor programming to determine the appropriate latch update point offset from vupdate. 2024-06-05drm/amd/display: Move fpo_in_use to stream_statusAlvin Lee
[Description] Refactor code and move fpo_in_use into stream_status to avoid unexpected changes to previous dc_state (i.e., current_state). Since stream pointers are shared between current and new dc_states, updating parameters of one stream will update the other as well which causes unexpected behaviors (i.e., checking that fpo_in_use isn't set in previous state and set in the new state is invalid). To avoid incorrect updates to current_state, move the fpo_in_use flag into dc_stream_status since stream_status is owned by dc and are not shared between different dc_states. 2024-04-30drm/amd/display: Notify idle link detection through shared stateNicholas Kazlauskas
[Why] We can hang in IPS2 checking DMCUB_SCRATCH0 for link detection state. [How] Replace the HW access with a check on the shared state bit. This will work the same way as the SCRATCH0 but won't require a wake in the case where link detection isn't required. 2024-04-30drm/amd/display: Force flush after write to IPS driver signalsNicholas Kazlauskas
[Why] It's possible that the write hasn't fully completed by the time we send (and flush) a command to DMCUB to notify idle to request IPS2 exit. [How] Perform a readback of the volatile structure into dc_dmub_srv state. [why] Enabling higher compiler warning levels results in many issues that can be trivially resolved as well as some potentially critical issues. [how] Fix all compiler warnings found with various compilers and higher warning levels. Primarily, potentially uninitialized variables and unreachable code. 2024-04-09drm/amd/display: Add extra DMUB logging to track message timeoutAlvin Lee
[Description] - Add logging for first DMUB inbox message that timed out to diagnostic data - It is useful to track the first failed message for debug purposes because once DMUB becomes hung (typically on a message), it will remain hung and all subsequent messages. In these cases we're interested in knowing which is the first message that failed.
